Work experience
Upvious ApS - Electrical engineer, and founder - 2024-12
Utilizing competences and skills gained during my 20 years of experience, and focusing on serving the market who still needs a qualified answer to technical problems.
Polytech A/S – Head of Electrical & Mechanical R&D, Principal Engineer - 2018-09 to 2024-11
My role in PolyTech developed from heading a team of Advanced Engineering specialists, over dedicated simulation and modeling (electrical, mechanical and blade loads and control), and lately being responsible for 20+ super skilled engineers in a department mainly executing lightning protection designs for customers world wide.
As Principal Engineer within lightning, I was responsible for all our products within LPS for blades, and partakes in LPS discussions on behalf of Polytech with regards to customers, legislation, research, standardization, etc.
Global Lightning Protection Services A/S – CTO, Co-founder, Co-owner - 2012-06 to 2018-09
Global Lightning Protection Services A/S was a result of merging Electricon A/S, Testinglab Denmark ApS and Highvoltage.dk ApS into one strong entity. GLPS was specialized in lightning protection of wind turbines and other mission critical applications, during the design phase and the final experimental verification. GLPS was able to provide complete innovative solutions that met the requirements from professional manufacturers, operators and owners, and that comply with the latest industrial standards and guidelines.
In GLPS my role included overall technical responsibility of our solutions and services, management of large public funded R&D projects (ELITE, LIBI, SPARCARB) as well as daily management and interactions with the board of directors.
TestingLab Denmark ApS – CTO, Co-founder, Co-owner - 2008-01 to 2012-06
TestingLab Denmark was a common entrance into the world of lightning protection of facilities and systems, electrical engineering, and testing of associated technologies
TestingLab Denmark was a company that owned and operated one of the largest commercially driven test facilities for lightning verification tests, utilizing impulse voltages up to 2.5MV, DC voltages up to 600kV, impulse currents up to 250kA and short circuit currents of 15kA. Our test facility measured 73m x 32m x 14m (LxWxH) and was used for testing full nacelles and blades.
My role in TestingLab Denmark was to design and construct our test equipment, participate in standardization and global Wind turbine test fora, and commercial interaction with customers.
Highvoltage.dk ApS – Founder and owner - 2005-09 to 2012-06
Highvoltage.dk was a consulting engineering firm having key competences within high voltage engineering and lightning protection, strong in theory as well as in practical laboratory exercises.
Highvoltage.dk was started upon the experience gained in my PhD studies, with the aim of providing services for wind turbine OEM’s to ensure utilization of academic findings into the industrial context of blade and turbine manufacturing.
Mogens Balslev A/S – Electrical Engineer - 2001-09 to 2003-03
Mogens Balslev A/S was a specialized electrical engineering consulting company, working globally for industrial customers. As part of a team within corrosion studies, I developed 3D numerical codes for analyzing stray current as consequence of monopole HVDC links, as well as the needed mitigation measures.
Education
PhD, Technical University of Denmark - 2003-03 to 2006-03
Interaction between electrical discharges and materials for wind turbine blades – particularly related to lightning protection.
The PhD study was initiated by Energi-E2 (now Ørsted) who experienced increased problems with lightning induced failures of wind turbine blades. The research focused on investigating the cause of damages due to the lightning interaction, suggest mitigation strategies and implement those in pragmatic tests at different scales.
The outcome was to a great extent implemented into the first international standard for lightning protection of wind turbines, IEC 61400-24 Ed1 (2010)
MSc. Electrical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark - 1996-09 to 2001-08
Starting as an ‘Energy Engineer’ with classes in thermodynamics, energy efficiency, and environmental aspects, I gradually moved closer to the electrical side and became a High Voltage Engineer with a thesis on automated tests of HVDC cables using impulse and DC voltage.
